Senior Accountant 

Organization

The WatchGuard Accounting team provides and performs all accounting transaction processing and management in support of management and financial statement reporting.

Description

This position reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for maintaining, reconciling, monthly closing and analysis of the balance sheet accounts related to accrual review for open POs and other budgeted accruals and monthly income statement fluctuation analysis.  The position also involves the preparation of ad hoc customized management reports, analysis, and research as well as project work related to the assigned accounts.

Specific Job Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is a working position that is expected to perform certain functions that include:

·         Inventory Control - Assure all applicable Great Plains users adhere to published policies and procedures for inventory related transactions. Analyze inventory variances with MRP Manager and report on inventory variances.  Monitor; resolve issues and problems for all inventory locations. Maintain records and support for freight capitalization calculation.  Provide and assist in providing reports to upper/executive management concerning inventory valuation, allocation and applicable trends.  Be present at quarterly inventory counts and review discrepancies and adjustments.

·         Fixed Assets - Maintain fixed asset sub-ledger for all purchases / sales / transfers / disposals and assure complete record of related support documentation. Perform monthly reconciliation of construction in progress (“CIP”) accounts, calculation of depreciation expense and posting(s) to GL. Perform month end reconciliation of GL to sub ledger and roll forward of fixed asset accounts and related accumulated depreciation. Maintain required documentation and reporting for monthly closing.  Provide depreciation projections by department in support of the annual budgeting process.  Ensure users adhere to capitalization policies.

·         Review accrual spreadsheets for both PO and standard (non-PO) A/P invoices to ensure accurate financial reporting.  Work with Purchasing to ensure the accuracy of all open non-inventory POs, including GL account coding, service dates and amounts, as they affect the monthly PO accruals. 

·         Contribute to monthly financial close process.  Post monthly budgeted accruals such as recruiting, legal, audit and tax-related accruals.   Maintain and reconcile the balance sheet accounts related to budgeted accruals.  Maintain Prepaid Assets and Other Long-Term Assets and their related amortization in Great Plains.  Provide and assist in providing reports to upper/executive management concerning accruals and applicable trends.  

·         Income Statement Fluctuation Analysis – Provide clear, concise explanations for fluctuations in expense accounts over an established threshold from the three-month average.

·         Contribute to annual external audits by providing documentation requested from audit preparation package. 

·         Maintain Office Lease and Sublease Schedules and Equipment/Computer Lease Schedule.  Prepare annual Minimum Lease Payment schedule and FAS 13 Lease Capitalization analysis. 

Experience and Qualifications

Work history should include 5+ years in position(s) with equivalent responsibilities and experience. Position requires a strong general accounting background with some exposure to accrual accounting and experience with monthly close and knowledge of GAAP.  Additionally position requires proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word). Educational requirements include a BA / BS degree in Accounting. CPA desired. Individual must be team-oriented self-starter with good problem solving skills and ability to interact positively and successfully with all levels of the company.
