PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
I
enjoyed attending the ASWA National Conference in Las Vegas last month. The
National Conference is always exciting, educational, and inspirational as
well, with so many accomplished women in attendance. It is a great
opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas, in addition to earning lots
of CPE. Five of us from the Bellevue chapter were in attendance, and a few
of us attended the Annual Business Meeting, which is always an interesting
experience. While there were no new By-Law Amendments to be passed, there
was still a great deal of material to cover - for example, electing members
of next year's National Nominating Committee, reviewing the ASWA Annual
Report, recognizing chapters and individuals for member recruitment and
retention achievements, and recognizing long-time members, as well as
first-time attendees. Next year's National Conference will be held in
Orlando, Florida in October, 2007, and I encourage all members to start
thinking about it now. It is truly a worthwhile experience!
Start working up a sweet tooth! ☺
The ASWA Bellevue Dessert Auction is
November 21st. This is an all-important meeting to raise money for our
Scholarship Fund and our Member Education Fund. Unless otherwise
designated, the proceeds are split half and half between the Scholarship
Fund, which helps students pursuing an accounting degree and also the Member
Education Fund, which helps lower the costs of regional and national
conferences for any member who wishes to attend. This meeting is lots of
fun, and family members and friends are welcome to attend this event. If
they haven't attended before, the cost is only $12 as a first time
guest. There will be many irresistible desserts to choose from! Start
thinking now about who you would like to invite.
Our next
dinner meeting will be held on October 17th, and it will be a
joint meeting with the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants). Hope to
see you all there!
Your
President,
Laura Ohringer, CPA
