PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It's hard to believe that we are well into the Fall season already, and Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching! It's also the season for our annual Dessert Auction, which will be held on Tuesday, November 21st. As I mentioned last month, this is an all-important meeting to raise money for our Scholarship Fund and our Member Education Fund.  This meeting is always so much fun, and family members and friends are welcome to attend this event.  If they haven't attended before, the cost is only $12 as a first time guest. Since the meeting is right before Thanksgiving, it is a wonderful opportunity to stock up on holiday desserts!

If any of you would like to be more involved with ASWA, but aren't sure how, please feel free to contact me, or any of our Board members. There are many ways in which you can help, even with a small time commitment. We will also be looking for new Board members next year, so if there are any particular interests you have, please let us know! We will soon be forming a committee to plan our 2008 Northwest Regional Conference in Bellevue, so that would also be a great opportunity for involvement.

Hope to see you all on November 21st!

Your President,

Laura Ohringer, CPA

Monthly Dinner Meeting Minutes

September 16, 2006

CALL TO ORDER:   The September 2006 Bellevue dinner meeting was called to order at 6:37pm by Laura Ohringer, President.   Presiding Secretary: Eleanor Siverts-Akerman, on behalf of Robin Noyes-McGuire, who was absent today.

Laura  led an introduction of all attendees, students, guests and  ASWA members.

She gave a brief summary of the national conference- 5 Bellevue members attended with over 300 attendees overall at the JNC.  There was great CPE tracks and met many CPA's from around the states.  There were no By-Law changes, but one exciting news is that Paula Bishop won the grand prize for the Recruiting contest held by National.

There is a new "9 in 9" membership campaign for 2006-2007 where if you recruit 9 new member, each chapter will receive one free registration to the 2007 National Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida.

We will have to start forming a committee when Bellevue will be hosting the 2008 NW Conference.  Anyone interested, please see Laura.

The North Cascades will be hosting a Fall Seminar in October.  They will be sending registrations out shortly.

At 7:33pm, Mellany Winter introduced tonight's guest speaker Debbie Allen Overbillig, Allen Partners.  Debbie is a board member of Washington Women’s Employment & Education (WWEE).  This non-profit organization holds seminars for women and men to get them ready for the workforce so that they may break the cycle of poverty.  Programs such as computer training, resume writing, interview techniques, skills assessments and basic support are just some of the topics covered to help women support themselves.  WWEE was founded in Pierce County in 1982 by a group of four local women.

Our October dinner meeting will be a joint meeting with the IMA.

The dinner meeting was adjourned at 8:18pm.
