PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I hope that everyone had a successful busy season and have by now had a chance to catch your breath!

There is still time to sign up for the Northwest Regional Conference to be held in Spokane on June 1st and 2nd. The early bird pricing has been extended to April 27th. You should have all received a flyer in the mail and an email reminder. It is a great experience to attend a regional conference, so I hope many of you will decide to join in.

Our May dinner meeting will be an important and exciting one! Not only will it be Student Night, with presentation of scholarship awards, but we will also be voting on the new slate of officers and board members for next year.

Just a reminder that you are always welcome to bring a guest to any of our dinner meetings. For our May meeting, if you know any students, they may be particularly interested in attending. Spread the word!

I look forward to seeing you on May 15th!

Your President,

Laura Ohringer, CPA

Linda Miller-Baldwin of the Washington Department of Revenue discussed the application of business and occupation (B&O) tax as it applies to businesses engaged in business activities in the state of Washington. She addressed the issue of streamlined sales and use tax which will require entities to collect sales and use tax based on the address of the consumer. This approach is to help the taxing districts collect taxes for their residents but will be burdensome for many small business. For any questions about any business and occupation taxes, you can contact Linda at the Washington Department of Revenue.
