PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
My term as Bellevue Chapter
President is now well underway. I would like to thank all members of the
2006-2007 Board and committees for your commitment this year. You are all
instrumental in keeping the chapter running smoothly, and I appreciate your
dedication.
I am looking forward to
attending the ASWA/AWSCPA Joint National Conference, which is scheduled for
September 18-20 at Bally's in Las Vegas. So far I have attended two ASWA
National Conferences, and it has been a very rewarding experience. Besides
2-3 days of high-quality CPE in four different educational tracks, it is an
excellent opportunity for networking with other women accountants across the
country and also taking a break from our daily routines and visiting a
different city. These conferences are for all members, and we
encourage you to attend. We recognize the importance of these conferences by
maintaining an education fund to assist our members with some of the costs
of attending. This year we also have a free conference registration (a $495
value) for any Bellevue chapter member who has not yet attended an ASWA
National Conference and would like to do so this year. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact me, or any Board member for details.
Hope to see you all on August 15th
at the August Dinner Meeting!
Your
President,
Laura Ohringer, CPA

"Fun Getaways in Washington State"
All of us in
our busy lives need to get away even if it's just for a night. If it's
impossible to get away for a night or weekend, we still need options on how
to spend a day that gives us a boost emotionally. Judy Easterbrooks presented
one day, one night and weekend get away trips in the Pacific Northwest. She
brought many catalogs with ideas for travel in Canada and Washington. Judy
also recommended several resorts with spas for those after tax season time
when you need to get away.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Clothing
Drive in conjunction with the 9/26/06 ASWA Meeting
The ASWA Bellevue Chapter will be
sponsoring a Clothing Drive for the Clothing Boutique at Washington Women's
Employment & Education (WWEE)!
We appreciate your time and effort in making it
a success. You are providing a wonderful contribution to those in need.
The
mission of WWEE is to assist low-income individuals to gain the skills, the
knowledge, and the courage to be self-supporting. One of the many ways we
assist our clients towards self-sufficiency and employment is through our
clothing boutique. Dressing our clients for success helps build their
confidence so they can get that job!
Clothing
Donations
WWEE
accepts interview and business appropriate clothing donations to stock our
clothing boutique. Both boutiques are stocked with clothing donated by
members of the community just like you. Additionally WWEE has clothing
boutiques on site at both our Tacoma and Kent locations and donations are
accepted during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
We are
always looking for new or gently used business appropriate clothing
donations. This includes: suits, blazers/jackets, slacks, blouses, shoes,
business appropriate shoes and handbags, jewelry, scarves, and new
undergarments. We need all sizes; however we have a particular need for
sizes 16 and up. We accept women's and men's clothing.
All
donations are tax-deductible. Our September speaker, Debbie Allen
Oberbillig will provide a clothing donation receipt for those requesting one
and at the conclusion of the meeting; Debbie will pick up and transport all
donations to WWEE.
For the
latest and most detailed info, check out
www.wwee.org.
The Bellevue Chapter of the ASWA would like to congratulate Chloe Veltkamp
our 2006 Scholarship recipient. She is a student at Seattle Pacific
University. Chloe was awarded a $1,500 Cash Scholarship. Congratulations
