FEBRUARY SPEAKER: Kevin Saito - FBI
Topic: Internet Security
Special Agent Kevin Saito supervises the computer investigations and digital forensics programs for the Seattle Field Office. He has been with the FBI for 17 years and investigated cyber crimes, organized crime groups, street gangs and violent crime offenses.
JANUARY SPEAKER HIGHLIGHTS
Shawn Gagnon, a Principal at F. James Weinand and Associates, CPA, PS in Tacoma kept us current on all the new tax laws recently passed by congress. There were so many, it was hard to keep them all straight. Taxpayers may benefit from the new vehicle tax deduction, enacted under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, first-time home-buyer credit, NO federal estate tax for this year that we know of. Another new break for taxpayers is the conversion of a regular IRA to a Roth IRA, so you could pay taxes on the front end in order to benefit from tax-free withdrawals later in life. There is also the American Opportunity Tax Credit, formerly known as the Maximum Hope Education Credit. Lastly, the mileage deduction for 2010 has been adjusted to $0.50/mile, down from 55 cents.
