MAY SPEAKER: Lisa Quast, Career Women Inc.

Topic:Student Night-"Your Career, Your Way: Personal Strategies for Achieving Your Career Aspiration"

Lisa Quast is founder and President of Career Woman, Inc. During her years of groundbreaking business and career success in traditionally male-dominated companies and industries, Lisa’s personal experiences developed in her a passion for helping women achieve their career aspirations. She is the author of the award-winning book “Your Career, Your Way: Personal Strategies for Achieving Your Career Aspirations”, is a sought-after professional speaker, trainer, and executive coach, and in 2005 was named one of the top 40 under 40 business leaders in Seattle by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Background
For the last two decades, Lisa has completed projects around the world in areas such as strategic planning, marketing, sales, service, business development, and operations. She spent the last ten years of her career working for Philips Healthcare, a ~$10 billion division of Royal Philips Electronics. She was the Vice President of Marketing for their Global Customer Services business and most recently, Executive Vice President of Strategy Planning, another global position.

Lisa is widely recognized both as a leader who successfully develops people and organizations and as an individual committed to sharing her experience through executive coaching and mentoring, consulting, training, and professional speaking. Her work has improved individual and team results at many companies including Philips, Medtronic, Nordstrom, Microsoft, Sleep Country USA, Toshiba America Medical Systems, ATL Ultrasound, Lifescan, Inc., Concur, Chameleon Technologies, Zaaz, the Greater Seattle Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the University of Washington, the Association of Women in Communications, the Association of Women in Computing, the Society of Women Engineers, Toastmasters, the Seattle Public Utilities...to name just a few.

Lisa holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree (marketing), a Bachelor’s Degree (business), a Graduate Certificate (mergers and acquisitions) from Stanford Business School, is a certified Green Belt in Process Improvement and has also earned her Certified Executive Coach (CCE) designation. Lisa has completed more than 30 additional management-training courses in areas such as project management, leadership and business law. She believes in continuously improving her knowledge and is currently completing her MBA.

Coaching
Lisa is a Certified Executive Coach (CCE designation) and has over a decade of coaching experience working with women in all levels of the workplace, from entry level to the executive level.

Lisa is a graduate of three modeling academies and an advanced acting program, has modeled professionally (runway, print, and television), and has competed in and won scholarships in numerous pageants (at the state and national level within the United States). Her extensive background allows Lisa the ability to work with women in the area of personal image management, focusing on wardrobe, hair and make-up for the workplace and for speaking engagements and meetings around the world.

Lisa develops presentations and coaches speakers for internal company meetings, annual meetings, and various media events such as analyst briefings and television and newspaper interviews. Her coaching and training techniques help speakers achieve confidence and professional and personal recognition.

APRIL SPEAKER HIGHLIGHTS

Patty Graf-Hoke, managing partner of the “90 Minute Marketing Workshop gave us 5 tips on basic business advice for marketing strategies. These are the 5 techniques cover in her course material.

  1. Who’s making your cash register ring?- you will learn how to look at revenue, products or services and how to determine smart marketing choices to get the most out of your marketing dollars.
  2. What makes your business so special?-you need to determine what makes you stand out from others. Make branding work for you.
  3. Rules & tools to use for smarter marketing.-find something that you do best and then market around that. Get out into the community so that people will remember you and what you do.
  4. Old media + new media: What’s the best answer?-take advantage of internet networks such as Twitters, Facebook, blogs SEO and SEM. Decide which is right for you.
  5. Action steps recap & a few good resources-a review will recap key points and provide resources you can use to help you make good marketing choices.

Patty’s mission is to support and advocate for small businesses and nonprofit groups. She developed a 90 minute workshop for women and speaks to women’s groups about strategic marketing.

The deadline for the ASWA Scholarship applications has been extended to April 30, 2009. If you know of any students pursuing their accounting or business degree or need a Becker CPA Review Course, please have them apply for our scholarships.

Hit The Membership Jackpot!
We have until June 30, 2009 to get all new membership applications into National Headquarters to qualify for “Hit the Membership Jackpot”!
The National Membership committee set a goal of signing up 7-7-7 new members by fiscal year end. They are well on their way of reaching their goal. So far there are 6-3-2 new members.
If you know of anyone thinking of joining a fine group such as ASWA, have them sign up soon. For each 10 members we sign up, our chapter qualifies to receive a free registration to the next Joint National Conference (JNC) in Las Vegas.
