PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
The year
just flew by, and now this is my last President's message. It has been a
great experience for me, and I have learned a lot. I am excited that
Caroline Thienes has stepped up to the plate as President for this coming
fiscal year, and Kristina Rusnak, as President-Elect. I know they will both
do an excellent job in the President's role!
I would
like to express my sincere thanks to all of the officers and board members
this past year. I appreciate all your efforts and everything that you have
done for our organization.
For our
next dinner meeting on June 19th, Lori Segale will be the speaker, and she
will discuss financial planning, a topic that is relevant to everyone. At
the June meeting, we will also have the official installation of the new
officers and board of directors, who were voted in at our May meeting.
Congratulations to all!
For our
July meeting, Starbucks will be hosting the Bellevue and Seattle chapters of
ASWA at the Starbucks corporate center in Seattle on July 25th. It should be
an interesting event and a great opportunity.

Jordan Day spoke at our May
Student Night on interview and resume writing skills for the college
student.
Hillary Parker, an Audit Associate, talked about the skills that employers
are looking for from a recent college graduate. Kristina Rusnak also
presented the Bellevue Chapter 2007 scholarship

Dinner Meeting Minutes
May 15, 2007
The May 2007 Student Night dinner meeting was
called to order at 6:25 p.m. by Laura Ohringer, President.
Laura welcomed the group and then presented the
Nominations for Board Members as follows:
President: Caroline Thienes
President Elect: Kristina Rusnak
Treasurer: Tricia Faughnan
Secretary: Eileen Elamin
Arrangements: Tina Farmer, Chair and
Cynthia Martin, Committee member
Bulletin/Web: Helen Yu
Dessert Auction: Shannon Orr
Master Tax Guide: Paula Bishop
Membership: Paula Bishop
Programs/Education: Mellany Winters
Publicity: Marlyn Marcelo
There were no other nominations and the members
were elected by unanimous ballot. The installation of the officers will be held
at the June meeting. Lori Segale will be the speaker and will discuss a
financial planning topic.
Announcements:
The July dinner meeting will be jointly held with
the Seattle ASWA chapter at Starbuck's Corporate Headquarters on July 25th.
Paula Bishop welcomed the members, guests and
students and discussed the benefits of membership with ASWA.
Isabella Peak of Action Coaching announced that
she has an Eastside client who is in need of a comptroller.
Presentation of Scholarship Awards:
Kristina Rusnak, Scholarship Chair, presented the
2007 scholarship awards. She discussed the qualifications required to be
chosen including Accounting background, GPA, need, etc. The winner of the $1600
cash award was Lois King from the University of
Washington with a 3.64 Accounting GPA. She will graduate in June of 2008. The
winner of the Becker CPA review was Sabrina Chen from
Central Washington University. She graduated in
December of 2006 and maintained an Accounting GPA of 3.38. Kristina then
introduced our speakers for the evening, Jordan Day from Allen Partners and
Hillary Parker from Clark Nuber who discussed the trends in accounting, the
hiring process, salaries, etc.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
