PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Many thanks to everyone who attended our famous annual ASWA Dessert Auction on November 20th and helped to make it such a success. Luckily, our timing was perfect and those yummy desserts could be contributed and consumed two days later at Thanksgiving dinners.

In December the Bellevue Chapter is having a joint meeting with the Seattle Chapter on Wednesday, December 19th over in Seattle. Social hour will begin at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6:30. Bellevue Chapter members must sign up through the Seattle ASWA website, noting that they are Bellevue members.

We will back in Bellevue at the Coast Hotel on January 15th, 2008. Our speaker will be Shawn Gagnon, CPA of Weinand & Associates, giving us the latest tax updates.

See you at the next meeting!

Caroline Thienes

DECEMBER SPEAKER

Therese Govern, MBA, CPA, CFP

trueNorth Financial Services, LLC

"Risk Tolerance"

Therese Govern, MBA, CPA, CFP is a partner, financial planner and investment advisor with trueNorth Financial Services, LLC, a fee-only personal financial planning firm located in downtown Seattle.  Therese joined trueNorth in 2006 after four years at another fee-only financial planning and investment advisory firm, and with ten years of prior experience as a CPA.  She is a Certified Financial Planner (TM) practitioner as well as a CPA.  Her goal is to bring clarity to her clients' financial lives - to replace confusion with a clear, well-lit path that will guide them through an uncertain future.

The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the three drivers of an appropriately designed personal investment portfolio. The speaker will be Therese Govern from trueNorth Financial Services, which is owned in part by Bellevue ASWA member Karen O'Brien.

The presentation will focus on risk tolerance.  An investor's tolerance for financial risk has long been acknowledged as very difficult to assess in the advisory community; for decades, advisors have used informal tools to try to get at this information.  At trueNorth, they use the FinaMetrica system, which was developed over the last decade by academics to provide a statistically valid way of measuring a person's risk tolerance, as well as taking them through risk/return tradeoffs using historical market data in a way that is easy to understand.

To get the most out of the session, trueNorth is inviting the attendees at the meeting to take the risk tolerance survey in advance.  FinaMetrica is available online; it takes about 15 minutes and most of trueNorth's clients find it fun to complete.  By taking the survey prior to the ASWA meeting, attendees will take away valuable insight into their own financial risk tolerance and how that might map to their personal portfolio design.  If you would like to take the survey prior to the meeting, trueNorth will need your email address in order to enroll you in the FinaMetrica system.  They will email you a user name and password.  If you'd like to participate, please send an email to jhebert@truenorth-fn.com and reference the ASWA 12-19-07 meeting in the subject line by Friday, December 14.

November Speaker Highlights

The Bellevue Chapter did not have a guest speaker during the month of November, as our annual dessert auction was held that evening to raise funds for the Scholarship and Education Funds.   The dessert auction was a great success with lots of tantalizing desserts.  There were some serious bidding going on that night!  We will have the final count soon for you, but an unofficial count before that evening was over brought in just over $3,400!!!!

.Once again, we could not have done this without our members and guests' help.  Thank you everyone for both your monetary and baked contributions.  Special "Thanks" to Paula Bishop and  Shannon Orr for organizing the event.  A special, special "Thanks" to Liz Pray for being our Auctioneer that evening!

aNNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to Linda Miller for passing the CPA examinations on her first sitting!!!

Linda now works for Cottle & Swanson, CPAs, PLLC in Bellevue
